Decorative Nautical Silver Finish Brass (?) Anchor, Made Italy
Product Description
An uncommon Nautical Arts Silver Finish Brass (?) Anchor, with Italian quality in design. The decorative Anchor's rustic appeal is a standalone addition to placement and makes a good choice in setting one’s rings or other jewelry, even as a paper weight.
Suspects mid 1900s, Stamped on the bottom base is “Made Italy.” The base too has 2 (slot head) set screws retaining it to the anchor. It is unknown what the metal composition is, though a silver plate is apparent and has non-magnetic properties including screws.
To note, from what I’ve read the “Made in Italy” mark is less understood than that of items sold, say from Japan and labeled “Made in Japan.” Before the mid-1900s if any Italian made item was addressed by use of naming it by Country, it would be just “Italy,” followed with some other method of numerical markings. “Made Italy” might then follow somewhere in the 1940’s to 1960’s, before finally resting upon just stating it as made in Italy.
